Smart Fixator® – MicroLift™ is a compact external fixation module designed to provide stable bridging fixation of the tibia while allowing controlled transverse transport of a cortical bone segment.

The system connects to the bone using half pins and functions as a unilateral external fixation construct that stabilizes the tibial cortex while enabling gradual mechanical transport during treatment.

MicroLift™ utilizes two 3.0 mm convergently oriented half pins for fixation of the transported cortical segment and two 5.0 mm half pins for tibial shaft stabilization, providing a balanced combination of fixation stability and controlled segment mobility.

The convergent orientation of the transport segment pins enhances fixation stability and reduces the risk of pin loosening or pull-out during the transport phase.

The device may be used as:

• a stand-alone external fixation module, or

• in combination with Smart Fixator circular or hexapod frames to create hybrid constructs when additional stabilization or deformity management is required.

System Function

The MicroLift™ mechanism allows precise incremental movement of the cortical bone segment through a ratchet-controlled adjustment system.

Each activation of the adjustment mechanism produces 0.25 mm of controlled distraction, allowing gradual and reproducible transport according to the prescribed treatment protocol.

The adjustment mechanism incorporates:

• Directional markings (UP / DOWN) indicating distraction or compression

• Increment indicators (1–4) to assist in tracking adjustments

• A marked transport module allowing visual confirmation of total transport distance

After each increment, the mechanism automatically locks to prevent unintended movement and ensure controlled transport.
